Armageddon Book III of the First Strike series and 100 Megatons Dropped On NYC

Lately people have been talking a bit more about the outside possibility of nuclear war with Russia based on the conflict in Ukraine. The fact that Putin has just moved nukes into Belarus is a further escalation. The purpose of this post is not to terrorize you but to let you know that in addition to the fact that hardly any medical services would be available, it is unlikely anyone would be around to need them. NYC would receive at least five 20 megaton bombs in less than 30 minutes.

The Unthinkable Consequences

Considering that within a 55 km radius of times square there are normally just over sixteen million people at any given time, based on a single 100 Mt bomb there would be the following results both sooner and later.
Immediate effects of the blast:

1. About 8 million deaths from the blasts alone.
2. Over 4 million serious injuries including 3rd degree burns where the nerves are destroyed.
3. The fireball radius would cover about 200 sq km.
4. Concrete buildings would be leveled within an area of 321 sq km.
5. All residential buildings would be gone within an area of 1500 sq km.
6. The thermal radiation area within which 3rd degree burns would happen would be a massive 13,000 sq KM area.

​Neither I nor any other sane person on the planet believes any but those prepared for a nuclear famine that would last for more than ten years could survive. The radiation deaths (a horrible way to die would be in the billions. Below is the image of the Hiroshima 20 kt bomb. The bomb or bombs dropped on New York City would be nearly 5,000 times as powerful.
