If the United States and China were to face off in the South China Sea, it would be vitally important to US success to take out the Chinese version of our AWACS known as the Shaanxi KJ-500. To do that, the Raptor would have to slip behind a forward screen of J-20 and soon-to-be J-31 fifth-generation stealth fighters.

The Chinese started to develop the Fractional Orbit Bombardment System arming it with a Hypersonic Glide Vehicle in response to G.W Bush's decision to pull out of the 1979 SALT treaty, The DF-17 launches the HGV into a low earth orbit about 150 miles above the surface of the earth and the uses it hypersonic rockets to target the reentry point and target.
