The New Weapons System Is an Outgrowth of Space Technologies

In Book III of the First Strike Series, Armageddon, the US ABM system must deal with the Chinese DF-17 FOBS HGV weapon. The Chinese started to develop the Fractional Orbit Bombardment System arming it with a Hypersonic Glide Vehicle in response to G.W Bush's decision to pull out of the 1979 SALT treaty, The DF-17 launches the HGV into a low earth orbit about 150 miles above the surface of the earth and the uses it hypersonic rockets to target the reentry point and target.

Last month, the global security community was startled by a report that China had twice tested hypersonic weapons over the summer. According to reporting by the Financial Times, this weapons system consists of two parts: a fractional orbital bombardment system (FOBS) and a hypersonic glide vehicle (HGV).  ~Astronomy.com
